On the western part of the island, opposite the settlement of Lefkos is located Sokastro Islet, which is estimated that it was a peninsula of Karpathos, which was cut off after an earthquake. The islet is uninhabited nowadays and only tourists visit it during the summer to explore its secluded beaches and see the ruins of the medieval dome-shaped buildings as well as parts of its fortification of the Byzantine times. Sokastro can be accessed either by a private boat, by a dinghy or by an excursion boat from Lefkos.
